Crew members of the submarine USS Pampanito (SS-383) gather on deck. This USN submarine sank the Japanese prisoner of war transport Kachidoki Maru on 12 September 1944. USS Pampanito later rescued a large group of Australian survivors, including some from Rakuyo Maru, herself sunk by USS Sealion II (SS-383), and disembarked them at Saipan for subsequent repatriation to Australia in October 1944.
