50th anniversary medallion : Captain C R B Richards, (AAMC) 2/15 Field Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery
Circular gilded metal anniversary medallion. The obverse features a scroll around the top semi-circle with '2/15 FIELD REGIMENT RAA' impressed on the inside, the Royal Australia Artillery (RAA) badge is featured beneath this. An enamel horizontally aligned oval colour patch for RAA, 8th Australian Division, divided diagonally red over blue is shown beneath this. The words '8TH DIVISION AIF' are impressed along the bottom semi-circle. The reverse of the medallion features the words 'COMMEMORATING 50TH ANNIVERSARY' around the top semi-circle. Beneath this is impressed 'V-J DAY 15 AUGUST 1945'. A map of South East Asia is pictured on the lower half of the medallion, showing where 2/15 Regiment served. A small four page pamphlet accompanies the medallion and provides a short history of the Regiment. It also provides a short description of the medallion and outlines its significance as a tangible tribute to the men and women who served in the 8th Australian Division.
This medallion was issued to former members of 2/15 Field Regiment Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of VJ Day, 15 August 1945.
