History / Summary
Awarded to NX2573 Private Charles James Smith from Lismore, NSW. Smith was born in Bangalow, NSW in 1915 and joined the AIF on 23 April 1941. He served with 2/30 Battalion in Malaya and was taken prisoner by the Japanese. He was kept as as prisoner of war in Thailand and died there on 1 November 1943.
