Lend a hand on the land
Description
British Second World War advertising poster. As the Second World War continued, with men required for military service, and the production of food becoming more and more critical to the war effort, the Government introduced the 'lend a hand on the land' scheme. The scheme was targeted at city-dwellers to spend their holidays helping on farms in the country. The scheme began in 1945 and carried on after the war finished later that year. The poster depicts a clenched left fist, ready for work, with the right hand rolling up its sleeve.
