Description
Six narrow gauge steam locomotives which have been loaded onto standard gauge low sided wagons waiting to be transported. The two closest locomotives are 2-6-2T side tank locomotives which were ordered by the British government from the American Locomotive Corporation (ALCO) and were constructed at the Cooke Locomotive Works in New Jersey, USA. A batch of 100 of these locomotives were delivered to the Western Front between February and May 1917. Stacked in the foreground are piles of prefabricated sections of narrow gauge track with pressed metal sleepers.
