Godward, John Albert Clarence (Private, b.? - d.1918)
Collection relating to the service of 2214 Private John Albert Clarence 'Alby' Godward, 24 Battalion, AIF, England, Western Front, 1917-1918. Collection consists of: various photographic postcards with writing (including a studio portrait of Private Godward in uniform & an informal snapshot of troops on board SS Omrah, wearing life belts); assorted silk and picture postcards; two letters written by Private Godward to 'Magsey' [probably Miss Heap of Pyramid Hill, Victoria]; two cablegrams from Private Godward to Miss Heap of Pyramid Hill, Victoria; note regarding Godward's death; empty envelope for diary of transference; and 'in memoriam' envelope containing nine small photographs.
Biographical note: 2214 Private John Albert Clarence Godward, 24 Battalion, AIF. Died of wounds 2 August 1918. Age 26. Son of John and Fanny Godward, of Loddon Vale, Victoria, Australia.
