History / Summary
Associated with the military career of Ernest James Heeley. Heeley, an Englishman, served with the 1st and 2nd Battalions of The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and saw service in Egypt and South Africa before emigrating to Australia. He subsequently served with 20 Battalion, AIF, during the First World War. Heeley received the Queen's Sudan Medal (1896-1897) and the Khedive's Sudan Medal (1896-1908) for his part in the British reconquest of the Sudan, participating in the battles of the Atbara and of Omdurman, near Khartoum.
