History / Summary
Associated with the military career of Ernest James Heeley. Heeley, an Englishman, served with the 1st and 2nd Battalions, The Royal Warwickshire Regiment, and saw service in Egypt and South Africa before emigrating to Australia. On 5 May 1915, at the age of 42 when he was working in Glen Innes, NSW, as an engineer, he enlisted in 20 Infantry Battalion, AIF. He is thought to have served at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, but returned to Australia on 17 October 1916.
