Hall, Ronald Wilson (Sergeant, b.1911 - d.1967)
Typescript carbon copy of 'Selerang Special Order of the Day No 3 Dated 4 September 1942', issued by Colonel E B Holmes, Commanding British and Australian Troops, Changi, relating to the signing of a 'Promise not to escape certificate'. For humanitarian reasons the Order instructed troops to sign the document but made clear that all signatures would effectively be made 'under the duress imposed by the Imperial Japanese Army'. Also, a signed statement, dated 1 April 1946, by former Sergeant (Sgt) Ronald Wilson Hall, who served in 2/10 Field Regiment, describing the mistreatment of Allied POWs by Japanese military personnel at Hintok Camp, No 4 Group, Thailand, during May 1943-June 1943. Collection also includes Army medical and pay records for Sgt Hall's service and period of internment as a prisoner of war during the Second World War and two photographs of a Field Artillery piece with caisson.
