Sergeant (Sgt) Dorothy Evelyn Dray (later Stewart) offers a tray containing pies and tea to evacuees from Dunkirk who had arrived at the Addison Road Train Station in London. This image is a still from a news film. Sgt Dray served with the British Army Transport Service (ATS) between 1939 and 1943. As part of her service Sgt Dray was involved in welcoming soldiers returning from Dunkirk. After the Second World War she married an Australian archaeologist, James (Jim) R B Stewart, later to become the first Professor of Archaeology at Sydney University and they moved to Sydney to live. Jim Stewart had enlisted as a lieutenant in the Cyprus Regiment and whilst posted to Crete was captured and became a prisoner of war (POW) in Germany for the duration of the war.
