P-51D Mustang aircraft of 77 Squadron RAAF are parked in four rows on a rain streaked dispersal apron in front of the maintenance hangar at Iwakuni. These 22 aircraft (of 27) were assembled to mark their return from Korea on 7 April 1951. The Squadron had just completed nine months of intensive operations in the war. After a short break, their pilots underwent conversion training to fly their replacement - Gloster Meteor Mk 8 jet aircraft. This is a digitally combined composite panorama made up of two separate images. It is only available as a digital print. The two images are also available separately at P03119.016 and P03119.017.
