Description

Bag for chess pieces made from a khaki cotton shirt sleeve cut off at the elbow and roughly tacked across to form a seam. The cuff has the remains of a drawstring that would have been used to hold the bag shut.

History / Summary

This bag was improvised in Changi Prisoner of War Camp by NX27117 Gunner W (Bill) A Bryant who enlisted in 2/15 Field Regiment on 24 June 1940. He served with the regiment in the Malayan campaign of 1941-1942 and was captured by the Japanese.
