Description
Four diaries with daily entries written by Lance Sergeant Lionel Benjamin, 1915-1919. The first diary commences on 1 June 1915 covering his voyage to Egypt and deployment to Gallipoli as part of the 19th Battalion. Benjamin describes action at Shrapnel Gully and Anzac Beach. In later diaries he writes about an attack on Pozieres on 4 Mach 1916 and fighting at Rouen and Ypres with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion. The diary entries are brief, with a daily weather report, a summary of the day's activities and a record of the pay received and letters received and sent. Benjamin returned to Australia in 1919.
