Studio portrait of 4913 Private (Pte) Stanley Ted Read, 15th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion (Bn), of Macarthur, Vic, (seated), and 2032 Pte James Herbert Campbell, 3rd Reinforcements, 60th Bn, of Abbotsford, Vic, (standing). Pte Read enlisted on 26 October 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Anchises in Melbourne on 14 March 1916. In July 1916 he was transferred from the 14th Bn to the 46th Bn. Pte Read was killed in action in France on 13 August 1916 aged 18 years. Pte Campbell enlisted on 18 November 1915 and embarked aboard HMAT Port Lincoln in Melbourne on 4 May 1916. While serving with the 60th Bn in France he was wounded in action twice, first on 18 May 1917 and later on 9 August 1918. Pte Campbell returned to Australia on 20 November 1918.
