History / Summary

Associated with the service of 7226 Private Francis Cassels, a miner originally from Newcastle, NSW, who was working in Ora Banda, Western Australia, when he enlisted in the AIF as a 33 year old in November 1916. He sailed with the 24th Reinforcements to 11 Battalion in January 1917, and served with this unit for the remainder of the war, returning to Australia in July 1919.
