Khaki short sleeve shirt : Corporal S J Sainsbury, 2 Squadron, RAAF
Description
Khaki short sleeve shirt with fold down collar and two breast pockets with buttoned flap closure. Each shoulder strap has a blue embroidered slide with the word 'AUSTRALIA' at the base. Woven corporal's rank chevrons are attached to each sleeve. The inside back yoke has a cotton label bearing a faded laundry mark. The lower inside front is faintly stamped in ink ' A228781 SAINSBURY R.A.A.F.'.
History / Summary
Worn by 220781 Corporal Sidney John (John) Sainsbury during his service in Vietnam with 2 Squadron, RAAF. Sainsbury joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1960 and served at various bases in Australia before being transferred to Butterworth, Malaysia with 4 RAAF Hospital from 1966 to 1969. He returned to Australia and then served in Vietnam with 2 Squadron from 1970 to 1971. He again returned to Australia from 1971 to 1979 serving with 34 Squadron. He then served at Butterworth from 1979 to 1981 and rejoined 34 Squadron from 1981 to 1983. From 1983 to 2002 Sainsbury served in the RAAF Reserve.
