Description

Khaki shorts with a concealed zippered fly and front pleats. The waistband has seven fabric belt loops. The shorts have side pockets, one rear pocket on the right side and a small coin pocket on the right front below the waistband. Inside the shorts the rear pocket has been stamped with 'A220781/SAINSBURY J./R.A.A.F.'. The number '18' has also been written on the pocket in black ink.

History / Summary

Worn by 220781 Corporal Sidney John (John) Sainsbury during his service in Vietnam with 2 Squadron. Sainsbury joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1960 and served at various bases in Australia before being transferred to Butterworth, Malaysia with 4 RAAF Hospital from 1966 to 1969. He returned to Australia and then served in Vietnam with 2 Squadron from 1970 to 1971. He again returned to Australia from 1971 to 1979 serving with 34 Squadron. He then served at Butterworth from 1979 to 1981 and rejoined 34 Squadron from 1981 to 1983. From 1983 to 2002 Sainsbury served in the RAAF Reserve.
