Description

Short sleeve crew neck T-shirt made from white cotton. The front has a small screen print on the right breast which shows the Kyrgyzstan flag surrounded by Cyrillic text which reads 'MANAS-KYRGYZSTAN 11 MAY 2002'. The back is screen printed with a cartoon showing a woman jogging through a mountain pass with aircraft flying overhead and bombing a target to her right. On the left is an armed Afghani and behind her is a truck with a French flag. In the distance is a mosque. Above the cartoon in blue, white and red lettering is 'La Coalition court pour la Liberte', translated to mean 'The Coalition runs for freedom'. The T-shirt still has a cardboard tag attached with the maker's logo and barcode. A small sticker attached to this tag indicates the shirt is 'XL'.

History / Summary

This t-shirt was produced by the French forces at the Ganci Air Base at Manas in Kyrgyzstan to wear at the 7 kilometre fun run held at the base on 11 May 2002. The run was organised by the French to celebrate the opening of the Munitions Storage Area road which had been rebuilt by the French 35th Engineering Corps. Four members of 33 Squadron represented the RAAF in the run, Flight Lieutenant Anthony Ried, Sergeant Geoffrey Cox, Sergeant Craig Hardwicke and Corporal Chris Lockwood. Out of more than 225 coalition members who participated, Cpl Lockwood finished second behind a French officer. A member of the Krygystan military came third.
