Woven cloth patch depicting the emblem of 33 Squadron, RAAF on a black background. The badge has a crown above a blue ring with the words '33 SQUADRON ROYAL AUSTRALIAN AIR FORCE' embroidered in yellow. Within the ring is a compass rose with a Great Frigate bird flying in front. Below the ring is a scroll with the motto 'ENDURING'.

History / Summary

Example of patch worn by members of 84 Wing Detachment. From 23 March 2002 until 27 September 2002 the detachment was based at Ganci Air Base in Manus, Kyrgyzstan as part of a multinational coalition participating in the war against terrorism. The detachment was based on an element of 33 Squadron, but included personnel from Expeditionary Combat Support Squadrons and No 1 Combat Communications Squadron. A number of specialists in medicine and legal fields were also present. More than 140 people, in two groups participated over the six month period. Using Boeing 707 aircraft, which are fitted to provide refueling of two aircraft simultaneously, the detachment was involved in air to air refueling for aircraft flying over Afghanistan.
