September 11 2001 commemorative medallions featuring the World Trade centre
Description
Two identical coins with a triangular wooden stand. The front of the stand has two circular indents to display each side of the coin. The obverse of each coin is enamelled in the centre with the United States flag and has the words 'UNITED TOGETHER IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM' around the edge. The reverse shows an image of the World Trade Centre in the middle encircled by the words 'WE WILL NOT FORGET SEPTEMBER 11,2001'.
History / Summary
These coins commemorate the attacks by Al Qaeda on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon on September 11 2001 which sparked the US-led War against Terrorism. They were sold at the United States Base Exchange (BX) in Kyrgyzstan during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2002.
