Russian helmet : Afghan forces
Description
Steel helmet painted green. The helmet is eliptical in shape and deep in the crown with a narrow brim. Brown cotton backed vinyl liner is attached to the inside of the helmet by four rivetted metal strips. A buckled leather chin strap is attached on either side.
History / Summary
Collected by 554630 Major Colin Johnston from an abandoned Taliban position at Kandahar airport. Major Johnston was Officer Commanding 152 Signal Squadron 1999-2002 and was Communications Officer of Task Force 64, the Special Air Service Regiment group in Afghanistan, from November 2001 to February 2002.
