Description
Group portrait of five gunners from the 102nd Howitzer Battery outside their dugout at the battery position in northern France. The roof of the dugout is camouflaged with netting, while the front is protected with sheets of corrugated iron. 5296 Gunner William Ambrose Hayes from Wandong in Victoria, is at back row far left. The remaining men are unidentified. (From the collection of 704 Driver Ernest Charles Barnes who served with the 1st Field Artillery Brigade, 21st Howitzer Brigade and 2nd Field Artillery Brigade.)
