Description

Looking towards Riencourt, in France, from the Hindenberg parapet, on 8 May 1917, whilst the village was in German possession. The 6th Brigade almost reached Riencourt in the attack on 3 May 1917, establishing itself in both the first and second systems of the Hindenburg Line, and for some distance further forward; but the lack of similar success on the flanks compelled a withdrawal to conform with the general line of advance.
