Description
The 58th Battalion moving up to check the German advance on Corbie. At this point, Vaux-sur-Somme, the Somme Canal had to be crossed by ferry boats. On the height in the background is the main road from Corbie to Bray, along which the troops advanced to the east of Vaire, where the enemy was encountered and his assault broken. The thick woods on the left were later used as advanced headquarters by the 11th Infantry Brigade, after being shelled out of the Brickworks, the chimney of which is just visible, on the high ground on the right.
