Description
The Somme village and the railway running through it. In this vicinity, on 27 March, the 38th Battalion resisted the German advance, using the railway station as a Company Headquarters, whilst the men 'dug in' in the embankment beyond it. The whole sector was subjected to artillery, rifle, and machine gun fire from the enemy line across the flats of the Ancre.
