Description
A German Casualty Clearing Station and cemetery which, when seized by the Australians on 9 August 1918, was found to have patients still in its wards. The area in which it was situated was finally captured after desperate fighting by troops of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Divisions in a general attack on the morning of 11 August, Lihons itself was taken by assault of the 2nd and 3rd Brigades, and held against two heavily pressed counter attacks. Note the group of unidentified soldiers on the pile of earth in the centre. This is the centre image in a three part panorama. See E02928P for the combined image.
