Troops of the 27th and 28th Battalions resting by a railway embankment 600 yards south east of Clery-sur-Somme, whilst on their way to positions from which they were to commence an attack on the following morning. The position was occupied by the cookers of the 5th, 6th and 7th Infantry Brigades during the operations carried out by the 2nd Australian Division on 1 September to 4 September. The 27th Infantry Battalion, after successfully capturing the village of Biaches, 4000 yards south of position in photograph, moved west of the Somme Canal on 1 September leaving Biaches about 1 o'clock to assist in operations at Mont St Quentin. The 27th Battalion cookers remained here from 2 September until 4 September when the Battalion was relieved. Identified are: 13445 Private (Pte) Wilfred Harold Trouse, 7th Field Ambulance (16); Pte M. Brabstone, 5th Australian Light Trench Mortar Battery (3).
