Description
One of the furthest points established by the 54th Australian Battalion in its advance through the streets of Peronne on the night of 1 September 1918. In front of the shop on the right are the bodies of two of an enemy patrol killed whilst approaching an Australian post the same night. On 2 September 1918 the whole of the town was in the hands of the Australians. Note the sentry (far left) and the Lewis gun in position behind him.
