Description
The 5th Australian Pioneers clearing the debris from the streets of Peronne one day after the enemy evacuated the town. The streets were being cleared to allow artillery to pass through that evening. While the work was being carried out the town was at times heavily shelled with shells of all description. The 15th Brigade were holding the position in front of Peronne at that time. Identified, left to right: Private (Pte) M. S. Baker; Pte J. A. A. Sanderson; Lieutenant W. F. Scriven; Corporal M. W. Cawston MM; Pte J. J. Tucker; Pte W. A. T. George; Captain T. J. Pattinson; Lance Corporal W. C. Jones; Pte T. W. Bateman; unidentified (standing much further back on the road); Sergeant S. Egginton MM; Pte J. T. Ryan.
