A Mark V (male) Battle Tank 'H41'. This tank (No 9199) was in action at the Battle of Amiens, with C Company, 8th Battalion, under 2nd Lt Whittenbury. Whittenbury was awarded the Military Cross for his actions during the battle. The tank was damaged by artillery fire in September 1918. This vehcle is now preserved at Bovington Tank Museum, in England. The photograph shows the tank stripped of its armament, and appearing to be missing a portion of its left hand side unditching gear rail. The exhaust pipe also appears to be badly damaged. On top of the tank are four two-gallon petrol tins, a wooden box and two tow wires. This type of tank has a six cylinder 'Ricardo' petrol engine, a maximum speed of 5 miles per hour; is controlled by one man and is armed with two six pounder guns and three machine guns.
