Description
The remnants of one of the field guns captured and damaged by the Germans in their temporarily successful counter-attack against the Australians at Lagnicourt in 15 April 1917. In this area desperate fighting took place between the enemy and Australians when the Germans in a counter attack penetrated the attenuated Australian line and succeeded in capturing the advanced guns of the 2nd Australian Field Artillery Brigade and holding them for nearly two hours. When the guns were recaptured it was found that of the 21 pieces that had been in German possession, only five had been damaged.
