Description
Two unidentified engineers of the 4th Field Company preparing an experimental Bangalore Torpedo during a practice firing. The torpedo was devised by Australian engineers and consisted of a long iron tube filled with aminol which when placed under the enemy wire and detonated created a gap through which the attacking infantry could pass. Note two obscured soldiers standing in a trench on the right.
