Description
The remnants of German dugouts built into a clay pit, located to the south of the road which ran by the orchard near Villers-Bretonneux. Two days earlier two parties of the 27th Battalion during a daylight raid entered the German lines between the road and the railway and met little opposition, however at the clay pit they found a number of 'pineapple' trench mortars and periscopes. Note a damaged timber structure on the left.
