Description
Unidentified troops of the 5th Australian Infantry Brigade, with their kit and rifles, resting on a hillside. This hill marked the limit of the first objective in the Battle for Amiens that began on this day. Operations were renewed shortly afterwards and succeeded to the extent that the German high command referred to 8 August as the black day of the German Army. Note the British Mark V* Female tank on the far right with the name 'Odysseus' written on its side.
