Moresby medley
Since the successful completion of the Papuan campaign and the consequent diminishing of the Jap[anese] threat to New Guinea, Moresby has developed very rapidly in equipment and personnel. Moresby has now become 'civilised'. We have a bus service, public telephones (both free of charge) and plenty of Military Police to cope with the new rules and regulations which have been made necessary by the increased population. Because of their monotonous routine of work, unrelieved by the excitement of battle action, the boys have tried to find something to keep them from going 'troppo' (Moresby madness) in this comparatively womenless and beerless area, hence the unusual hobbies depicted. (transcribed from cameraman's dope sheet). Identified personnel are: Corporal W G Printer of Newcastle; Private Milburn; Leading Aircraftman J W Perry of Gasterto; Leading Aircraftman R Macclure of Wagga Wagga; Leading Aircraftman W J Telfer of Annandale; Leading Aircraftman A Saunders of Cascade; Corporal Tombaugh from Nebraska; Master Sergeant Kenneth Kruse from Iowa, USA; Driver Jim Howard of Colac; Gunner Joe Mather of Townsville; Gunner B Connor of Sydney; Private L S Sutherin from Ohio; Private J McPherson from California; Staff Sergeant Edward O'Donnell USAAF.
