Cavalcade of victory
Description
For some months British Allied Forces and the Axis Army, lay locked in stalemate in the desert of Quatara and El Alamein. Rommel's thrust to conquer Egypt had failed, but he was massing for another desperate bid. The Allies were also gathering power to crush the invader and sweep him from the shores of North Africa. By 23 October 1942 the British and their Allies were in a position to attack. Identified personnel include: General Montogomery; General Ritter von Thoma; Major General L J Morshead; NX70218 Reverend Captain John Baskin leading bearers at the burial service for Brigadier A H L Godfrey.
