Easter action on Bougainville
Introduction reads: "While on the home front most of us were taking it easy for four days over Easter, Americans, Fijians and New Zealanders were fighting the Japanese in the shell blasted swamps and jungle of Bougainville island. Though the 3rd New Zealand Division was already established 150 miles to the north on Nissan Island the Japanese cut off on Bougainville were still fighting desperately. These grim pictures were taken under fire by a New Zealand National Film unit cameraman. We show them to remind you that the troops sweating and dying in the jungle will not easily understand or forgive any slacking on the home front."Identified N.Z. personnel: General Cresswell, Lieut.-Col. Upton of Auckland, Sgt. Wilson, Captain Chivers, Lieut. Bendall.
