Bird dog
Description
Wing Commander Tony Powell holds the unique distinction in the RAAF of being the only FAC pilot operating in South Vietnam with the USAF the term FAC means Forward Air Controller and is given to the Small Cessna aircraft that are used for spotting enemy positions. These small aircraft are also referred to as 'Bird Dogs'. The 'Bird Dog' shown is a USAF aircraft flown by Wing Commander Powell operating from Luscombe airfield Nui Dat. Shows Powell preparing to take off; in flight; marking target with 2 inch rocket; No 2 Squadron RAAF. Canberra bombers attacking enemy positions.
