Exercise "Castor Oil" gets under way
Description
This exercise was designed to test the wet season defence facilities of Darwin. RAF Vulcans were flown from Singapore to take part in the exercise. RAAF aircraft taking part included Mirage fighters, Canberra bombers, Iroquois helicopters and Hercules transports. During the exercise Darwin was subjected to simulated attacks by air and ground, carried out by RAAF aircraft based at Tindal and by RAF Vulcan bombers at Darwin. Shows the first of the RAF Vulcans from Singapore landing at Darwin, a RAAF Hercules arriving, bringing in ground crews. Canberra bomber taxiing in with Air Vice Marshal W.E. Townsend. AVM Townsend greeted by Group Captain Glassop, OC RAAF base Darwin.
