Mrs Barnard visits Baria DPR/TV/1373
The wife of the deputy leader of the Australian Labor Party, Mrs Lance Barnard, this week took time out to visit Baria, the Provincial capital of Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam, while her husband inspected various Australian Task Force positions. Mrs Barnard started her visit with an inspection of the new surgical ward at the Dr Pham Huu hospital. Included in the official party were F3950039 Australian Red Cross nurse, Miss Pamela Ann (Pam) Spence of Bentley, Vic, Mr Peter Timmins, First Secretary at the Australian Embassy of Canberra, ACT, and Mr Clem Lloyd, the Deputy Leader's press secretary. Mrs Barnard showed special interest in the children's ward and spent several minutes talking to the hospital staff. Mrs Barnard and the official party were given a guard of honour when they arrived at the Chau Van Tiep High School in Baria. She showed obvious delight when a small girl student presented her with a huge bunch of flowers. Mrs Barnard visited several classes which were in progress and finished her tour with a look at the school's library.
