Description

Scenes taken at POW camp, Kuching, where some one thousand three hundred people, British, Australian troops and civilians and some Roman Catholic priests had gathered. Parade for visit of 351001 (VX7) Major General George Frederick Wootten, General Officer Commanding 9 Australian Division at POW camp. Japanese soldiers still guard POW camp and city of Kuching. Two POW officers, Lieutenant Colonel Morgan, 2/12 Australian Field Regiment (left), and VX48547 Major Leonard John Malcolm Blanksby, 4 Anti tank Regiment (right). 437351 (SX3295) Brigadier Thomas Charles Eastick DSO ED, reading from a paper. Warrant Officer 1 Beckett from London, who built the two valve radio set in Kuching Camp. Ex Chief Secretary of Sarawak Civil Service, Mr J B Archer, raising the flag.
