Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke at Morotai
Description
On 24 November 1945, Field Marshal Sir Alan F Brooke, Chief of the Imperial General Staff, War Office, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Boyle, his Military Assistant, arrived at Pitoe Airstrip by Avro York aircraft for a short visit to the island on his way from Manila to Australia. VX12014 Major General Edward James Milford took Sir Alan Brooke GCB DSO on a quick tour of the island. During the afternoon of 24 November 1945, HMS Glengyle left Morotai for Australia carrying troops for discharge.
