Japanese repatriation centre Ujina, Japan
Description
For several months a detachment of Australian soldiers have been supervising the repatriation of Japanese POWs at Ujina, port of Hiroshima. Inspection of belongings, confiscation of prohibited articles, medical examination, inoculation and dusting with insecticide DDT are routine events at the Centre. The Japanese, who are greeted and assisted by girl volunteers, have expressed surprise at the good treatment they receive on their homecoming.
