Description

The Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie, accompanied by his two daughters, Princesses Sofie Desta and Ijigayehou Assfa Wossen, and Ethiopian officials visited the Memorial on the morning of 14 May 1968. The party was greeted by the Minister for the Interior, Mr Nixon who presented the Emperor to members of the Board of Trustees of the Memorial. The Emperor, after laying a wreath on the Inauguration Stone, visited the Hall of Memory and paused at the Pool of Reflection to drop an Ethiopian gold coin into the water. He was then esorted on a tour of the galleries.
