Navy in Focus Edition 5
1. Missiles at sea. An RAN River class frigate at sea armed with Sea Cat anti aircraft and Ikara anti submarine missiles. Launch of the Guided Missile Destroyer HMAS Hobart launched at the Defoe Shipbuilding Company at Bay City, Michigan, USA, on 9 January 1964.
2. New Task for WRANS. Women of the Women's Royal Australian Navy working as radar plotters and drivers.
3. Governor General goes to sea. The Right Hon. William Sidney, 1st Viscount De L'Isle, VC, KC, GCMG, GCVO, PC boards HMAS Melbourne on visits Norfolk Island. Flown from HMAS Melbourne to Norfolk Island by a RAN Sycamore helicopter. Wreath laying ceremony on Norfolk Island.
4. To chart a continent. HMAS Moresby commissioned on 6 March 1964 under the command of Commander J H S Osborn, RAN.
5. Change in command Change in command ceremony on HMAS Melbourne.
6. Combat Veteran. Second World war veteran the Q-class anti submarine frigate HMAS Quiberon (F03) paid off to reserve on 26 June 1964.
