6th Battalion Officers taken at Ailly Le Haut Clocher, France. Back row: left to right: 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) James Ravie Robb, MC and Bar, enlisted 27 August 1914 and returned to Australia 23 July 1919. Lt Robb was awarded the Military Cross on 12 February 1919 for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at Mernis on 9-10 July 1918. On 3 June 1919 Lt Robb was awarded a Bar to the Military Cross for his actions at Herleville Wood on 23 August 1918. Lieutenant (Lt) George Wilkinson Buller, who enlisted on 12 July 1915 and returned to Australia on 12 May 1919. Lieutenant (Lt) S Spark; this officer is possibly Lt Sidney Walter Spark, who enlisted on 20 December 1915 in the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion and returned to Australia 12 May 1919. 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) Daniel O'Donnell, who enlisted on 18 August 1914 and returned to Australia on 19 April 1919. 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) Frederick Edmund Trotter MM. Lt Trotter enlisted as 616 Private (Pte) Trotter on 19 August 1914 in the 2nd Field Ambulance, part of the 6th Battalion. Pte Trotter was awarded the Military Medal on 2 May 1918 for his efforts at Broodseinde Ridge, east of Ypres on 4-5 October 1917. 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) John Clarence Ferguson, who enlisted on 1 July 1915 and returned to Australia on 28 March 1919. Lieutenant (Lt) William James B Goad who returned to Australia on 12 May 1919. Third row: Chaplain George Walter Carter who returned to Australia on 28 May 1919. Chaplain Ernest Stanley Yeo who enlisted on 26 July 1917 with the 23rd Battalion and returned to Australia on 28 May 1919. Lieutenant (Lt) Herbert Owen Tully, 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) J E Rouston, Lieutenant Edward J Burke, who enlisted on 26 November 1914 and returned to Australia on 28 March 1919. Lieutenant (Lt) John Sayers Percival Stafford MC, who returned to Australia on 17 August 1919. Lt Stafford was recommended for a Military Cross on 1 November 1917 and finally awarded it on 3 June 1919 for his actions at Lihors on 9-10 August 1918. 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) Ernest Philip Hargraves, enlisted on 18 May 1916 in the Spec Rfts Tun Coy and returned to Australia 15 April 1918. Lieutenant (Lt) J W Pearce. Second row: Captain Alan John Bothamley (RMO), enlisted in the Army Medical Corps on 16 July 1917 and returned to Australia on 18 December 1918. C E W Bean Esq., Captain (Capt) Graeme Stobie MC, who enlisted as a Lieutenant and returned to Australia on 12 June 1919. On 17 August 1918 Capt Stobie was recommended for a Distinguished Service Order (DSO) for his conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty for his actions at Lihone on 9-10 August 1918. Capt Stobie was awarded the Military Cross on 3 June 1919. Captain Stanley Gordon Samuel, who enlisted on 20 August 1914 and returned to Australia on 13 July 1919. Major Alexander Rossiter Caughey, who returned to Australia on 13 July 1919. Major Caughey was mentioned in dispatches on 11 November 1918 for his actions on 16-17 September 1918. Major Caughey was again mentioned in dispatches on 17 January 1919 and again on 30 October 1919. On 17 July 1919 Major Caughey was awarded the Legion of Honour 5th Class Chevalier for his actions at the Hindenburg Line near Peronne in August-September 1918. Major Caughey was awarded the France Croix de Guerne on 25 March 1920. Captain Charles Henry Gould, MM, enlisted on 15 December 1914. As 1552 Regimental Quarter Master he was awarded the Military Medal on 10 June 1916 for his actions at Steele’s Post in July 1915. As 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) Gould he was mentioned in dispatches on 4 March 1918 and 26 December 1918. Captain Mathew Abson returned to Australia on 12 May 1919. Captain Thomas Giles Paul, of the Australian Army Medical Services, enlisted on 21 August 1914. Front row: 2nd Lieutenant (Lt) George Gordon Grant, of the Australian Army Medical Services, enlisted on 11 May 1915 and died 31 August 1918. Lt Grant was mentioned in dispatches dated 7 November 1918. 2nd Lieutenant Harold Charles Carne, who enlisted on 13 May 1915. 2nd Lieutenant Eric Maxwell Catherwood, who enlisted on 23 September 1916 and returned to Australia on 16 June 1919.
