Description

Joseph Victor Truscott was 21 years old when he joined the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in July 1915. He listed his occupation as letter carrier and lived in Long Gully , Victoria. He listed his mother Mrs Mary Truscott as next of kin. Joseph Truscott was an Acting Sergeant when he embarked with the 8th reinforcements of the 21st Battalion from Melbourne on 29 December 1915. During the reorganisation of the AIF in February 1916 Truscott transferred to the newly formed 60th Battalion. He was promoted to Sergeant in March 1916. Sergeant Truscott was hospitalised with influenza 30 April 1916 and rejoined his unit on 5 May 1916. He arrived in France with 60th Battalion 29 June 1916. At the end of November 1916 Sergeant Truscott is hospitalised with trench foot and on the 9 December 1916 dies from his illness (trench foot and septic pneumonia).
