Allan Lynch enlisted in the Australian Army on 14 June 1941, at Royal Park, Victoria. Like his older brother, Leonard (Len) Lynch, he was underage when he enlisted. He embarked with the 6th Division to the Middle East (Palestine). He became ill in Palestine and was on light duties, when he heard that Len’s 9th Battalion had arrived and set up camp. Allan located Len, who subsequently applied to ‘claim’ his younger brother. This process was approved and Allan joined Len and the 9th Division. Both later fought in Papua New Guinea after the fall of Singapore. Allan’s final posting was with 51 Transport Platoon and was a Driver, as was his brother. Both Allan and Len served the course of the war, discharging within a week of each other in early April 1946.
