Hector Alexander McIntyre was born on 26 August 1918 at Cairns, Queensland to Peter McIntyre and Beatrice Eleanor Toll. He worked as a clerk and served in his local militia before enlisting on 2 July 1940. McIntyre served as a private with the 2/26 Australian Infantry Battalion and was held as a prisoner of war in Singapore between 1942 and 1945, during which time he was interned at Changi. He was released on 5 September 1945 and returned home on 7 October 1945. On 20 November 1945 he was officially discharged from the military. By 1949 he was back in Cairns, Queensland working as a shop assistant and married to Alice Daisy Taylor. By 1963 he was living in Nundah, Lilley, Queensland and working as an operations clerk. On 25 November 1996, Hector Alexander McIntyre died at the age of 78 at Brisbane, Queensland. McIntyre is remembered at the Albany Creek (Columbarium) Memorial Park, Queensland.
