Warrant Officer Class 2 George William Mowat
Description
Warrant Officer George William Mowat MM enlisted in the First Australian Imperial Force on 28 April 1915. Embarking from Melbourne on the HMAT Euripides, he served with the 24th and 58th Battalions at Gallipoli, France, and Belgium. In May 1919 Mowat was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. He returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged in November the same year.
On 22 August 1940, Mowat was mobilized as a member of the Citizen Military Forces and after a period of training joined the 39th Battalion and embarked for New Guinea. On the 30 December 1942, Warrant Officer Mowat was killed in action.
